Lacerte currently has the ability to separate a MARRIED return into separate returns. But, I do not see a mechanism to take two individual single filers and join them when they marry. We either have to update one file by adding the new spouse and updating all of the prior year information or we have to create an entirely new client file and manually join their information.
Thanks for the idea to "take two individual single filers and join them when they marry". We are changing the status to "Open for voting".

I think this is a great idea - partly because I hate having to deal with this setup. I believe Intuit's integration of this process into the software will help save time in much the same way as the process of splitting a married couple into individual files.
With respect to the client number, having a new client number would be best but referencing back to the original clien number would be nice.
We are half way to the 50 votes mark. Come on Lacerte peeps! Rally time! 🙂
