Lacerte is committed to continuously improve and provide you with the most innovative and valuable features.

Beginning in November, we will focus our REP credit request review on returns that have been REP'd within the last three tax years. This means that when you submit a REP credit request, we will review it for returns from the current tax year, plus the two prior tax years. This also includes any older returns that were processed within this same three-year window.

Why are we making this change?

Our goal is to continuously improve Lacerte and provide you with the most innovative and valuable features. By streamlining our REP credit request process, we can more effectively dedicate our resources to developing new tools and enhancements that will benefit your firm and help you serve your clients more efficiently. This includes focusing on the tax years that are most relevant to your current practice.

Is there a specific reason for the three-year timeframe? Was this based on user data or industry standards?

The three-year timeframe was established to align with industry standards and to focus our resources on the most current and relevant tax years for our users. This allows us to dedicate more time and effort to developing new features and innovations that benefit you most.

Can you provide a concrete example of a return that will be eligible for a REP credit request, and an example of one that will no longer be eligible?

With the release of the 2025 program, we will review requests for returns REP'd between November 2023 and November 2025. This includes prior year returns where REP is active and billing. A return REP’d in October of 2023 will not be eligible.

Does this change affect all types of returns (e.g., individual, business, etc.) or only specific ones?

This change applies to all types of returns that are processed through the Remote Entry Processing system.

What happens to REP credit requests for returns that fall outside the new three-year timeframe but were submitted before the change in November?

All REP credit requests submitted before the program's release date in the third week of November will be worked. This change only applies to requests submitted after the change date.
