I have a client who built a building that qualifies for an energy investment credit. They hired a firm (similar to the ERC firms) to calculate the investment credit and send me the amounts for the form 3800 and form 3468. The problem is Proseries does not support these forms inside the 990/990-T so it is giving me an error saying that the return is required to be e-filed but it can't be e-filed because it requires form 3800. The only thing I can think of to do is fill out the 3468 and 3800 manually and attach it as a PDF. I did that and am now getting the original error and a new error saying there is an attachment of a form that's not supported. I can turn off error checking and e-file which is what the proseries support suggested I do when I called. Has anyone experienced this or have any other advice on what I should do?
Did you ever get resolution on this issue? We now have the same problem with an apparent inability to e-file.
Not through Proseries. We tried mailing it in as allowed by Rev Proc 2024-39 but the IRS people didn't even look at it and sent it back because they are unfamiliar with their own Rev Procs. The firm that helped the client with all of the calculations ended up paying another firm to e-file it in a software that does support the forms. I believe it is cch axcess.
I've encountered this same ProSeries issue before. 990-T e-filing does not cooperate with Form 3800, and will produce errors regardless if you attach it as a PDF or not.
In all honesty, the easiest ways I've handled this is to do either of the following:
Although the IRS instructions for Form 3800 are quite clear on handling these credits and attachments, it is worth reminding you to take a quick look (IRS Form 3800 Instructions).
