    I e-filed several federal tax returns on Oct 15th. More than 10 hours have passed and status is still showing as "sent to IRS" and have not yet received acknowledgment. What can be the issue? 

    Normally within couple of hours, acceptance notification is received.

    not unusual around filing deadline. I am waiting on some also.

    Having same issue.... any return that I tried to e-file after 4PM EDT on October 15th... has not been processed yet; 6 Federal; 3 state.

    Asked/answered several times in the last 24 hours.

    SUBMISSION time/date establishes filing on time. Not the acceptance. 

    AND, if a return is rejected you have several days to perfect/correct. And if you can't, then paper file with the rejection notice & documentation

    I'm glad someone gave the score anyway.  Did the federal get a touchdown and miss the extra point or was that two field goals?

    I think someone already mentioned this today, but patience is an excellent virtue to have this time of year.
