Folder permissions for Intuit Hosting users

by Intuit• Updated 2 weeks ago

Intuit Hosting does give the option for an Account Owner to mandate Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for their hosting users to require an extra layer of protection for accessing the hosted environment.

Some firms have the need to limit employee access to certain files or clients. Rightworks does offer the ability to control folder permissions through the Rightworks AppHub. Due to the complexity of folder permissions, we strongly suggest using passwords whenever possible instead of changing folder permissions.

For instructions on creating passwords:

If the file is something you do not want to share with others, you can save it on your H:\ drive (which is not shared).

Many firms use a file storage service that has the ability to restrict access to a folder such as Google Drive, ShareFile, SmartVault, & Tax Dome.

If you have decided that you need to change folder permissions, be sure to carefully consider how you want to limit access and keep in mind the following:

  • Only the Account Owner or an Account Admin will have the ability to make these types of changes.
  • If done incorrectly, changes can make it so that users cannot work in the hosted environment until corrected (this can also include the Account Owner or Account Admin who makes the changes).
  • When a new user is added, before they do anything, their folders would need to be re-mapped by the Account Owner or an Account Admin.
  • The folder that will contain Lacerte or ProSeries would need to be the first granted so it is set as the I:\ drive.
  • The Rightworks article AppHub - Granting & Revoking Folder Access includes instructions. The article is for your information only. You can choose to change folder access, but support will NOT assist with these steps and will NOT assist with troubleshooting to make it work the way you want. Support can help change it back to the default if needed:
