Not only are you finalizing your clients’ extensions; you are also planning ahead for the next tax year. Along the way, check out these important tax and compliance deadlines for October 2025, and be sure to share this list with your clients. In October, it is recommended that you: Complete extended individual and corporate returns: Prioritize 1040 and 1120 filings before October 15. Initiate year-end tax planning: Begin discussions on charitable contributions, retirement planning, and deductions. File Q3 payroll and excise tax returns: Prepare and file Form 941, Employer’s Quarterly Federal Tax Return, and Form 720, Quarterly Excise Federal Tax Return. Participate in a fun fall festival or local event: Break away from tax software, QuickBooks® Online, and spreadsheets to enjoy a seasonal event such as a pumpkin patch, food festival, or Oktoberfest. Key Compliance Dates Friday, October 10: Tips reporting for September. Wednesday, October 15: Extended Individual (1040) and Corporate (1120) returns due. Monthly payroll tax deposit for September (Form 941). Monday, October 27: Communications and air transportation taxes deposit for the last 15 days of September. Wednesday, October 29: Regular method excise taxes deposit for the first 15 days of October. Friday, October 31: Form 941 for 03 2025 due. Form 720 for 03 2025 due. Form 730, Monthly Tax Return for Wagers, and Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, for September due.
