RANT
I have been preparing tax returns and have owned an insurance agency since 1988. I have (electronic) relationships and interfaces with over 4 dozen government agencies, insurance companies, and financial institutions. Each with its own proprietary platforms and protocols.
Even though I have a full time IT tech to maintain our systems, I spend 1/2 my day logging various platforms requiring SMS, email, or authenticator MFAs and the other 1/2 arguing with their help desks when their STUFF doesn’t work.
A national insurer just migrated 10 of our staff to their new platform. They somehow confused and crossed up the principal’s personal information. When i couldn’t login or reset my password I called the help desk who verified my identity by birthdate. Apparently I got it wrong and they could not speak with me and had NO other means of verification. 5 emails and 2 days later, both my wife and I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with these IDIOTS
The State of NJ combined their 3 property tax reimbursement programs for seniors and the disabled onto one new 3 page convoluted application. They offer an electronic application, but ONLY available to individual taxpayers using their “id.me” logins. Good luck finding an octogenarian with ID.Me. preparers cannot access the electronic filing system.
Can’t wait for the new Proseries software…. I’m planning on downloading it 4/1/26 and putting everyone on extension. Figuring they’ll work out the kinks by next July.
