1040ES payment for Q3 no longer go to the Cincinnati PO box.  This is a recent IRS change taking effect in Mid-July.

PO Box 1300 Charlotte. NC 28201-1300

What's happening here is that Treasury selects the bank that runs the lockbox operation -- currently, it's US Bank -- and then tells IRS what to tell its customers about mailing addresses.  The current contract doesn't expire until 2026, and there are hundreds of thousands of people who have been told to send checks to Cincinnati, so that address still works.  US Bank decided it would rather receive more mail at Charlotte and less at Cincinnati, and Treasury agreed with that.  Treasury told IRS to change its mailing instructions, but it's up to IRS to notify taxpayers.  Slipped through the cracks, during the reign of one of the seven commissioners this year.  But Cincinnati is still open and processing checks.  New vouchers should be printed with the Charlotte address.  Old ones don't need to be corrected.

And it's Armenia, not Albania

It goes beyond just CA residents and it's not only Charlotte -- 1040-ES go to Charlotte and 1040-V go to Louisville. See this post that I made last week after speaking to a representative at Lacerte:

Thank you @Kathi_at_Intuit, will this not automatically be just uniformly corrected at any point? Or will we have to manually do so for each client we file?

More importantly:

1. WHEN will this diagnostic appear? I do not see it.

2. Will we have an option to override the 1040-ES addresses? No "combo" under "IRS Center" suggests we'll have a way to change it to 1040-V to Louisville and 1040-ES to Charlotte....

Per the link from Kathi above.  I am annoyed about this language "if they prefer to". Preference isn't the issue Intuit.

  • Official IRS Address Information: For the most current address information directly from the IRS, please visit: https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment
  • Lacerte Tax Diagnostic: A diagnostic will be added to Lacertet Tax to inform users to change the address to the correct location if they prefer to.
  • Updating Client Letters in Lacertet Tax: For guidance on updating client letters with the new addresses, please refer to this support article: Common questions about editing client letters in Lacerte
  • Update address on the 1040-V per client:
    • Go to Forms tab>1040-V
    • Right-click the IRS address and select Jump to Input
    • Select correct IRS Center from the IRS Center (Ctrl+T) [O] dropdown.

It sure isn't. I was actually (unsuccessfully) trying to reply to Kathi's link but apparently only replied to myself. I'm not sure what good updating the client letter does if the addresses on the vouchers aren't correct either. Telling a client, "just kidding, don't mail your $50,000 payment to the address on the voucher itself, mail it to this address instead!" doesn't give me the warm & fuzzies.

Hi @shannondb Thank you for tagging me. This was given to development and they are reviewing and looking at next steps. I do not have an eta on if or when it will be automatically updated or if there will be an option to override the 1040-ES. The diagnostics tentative release is in tomorrow's update. I will keep an eye on this and will update if there is one.

Very very messy IRS.  I had clients who were sending to Cincinnati lockbox and were returned to sender in July. Got word earlier this week from Spidell Pub. about the changes to Charlotte NC address.

So asking clients to update me if they received RTS and to update the address shown below.

https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-addresses-for-taxpayers-and-tax-professionals-filing-form-1...

Believe the update on IRS website was published: Page Last Reviewed or Updated: 17-Jul-2025.

Source: Wayback Machine on July 10th showed the old addresses published: Page Last Reviewed or Updated: 18-Dec-2024

But at least as of last week, if you go to the 1040-V form itself on the IRS website, it still lists the old addresses in the "where to file" section! 😑
