According to this, an eSignature request for an MFJ 1040 with a deceased taxpayer should be sent only to the suriving spouse; however, it seems in this case the request went to both spouses (see screenshot of eSignature request history). The return correctly identifies the taxpayer as deceased and the spouse as "Filing as Surviving Spouse."

If you get both back signed by the surviving spouse - send the efile.
Sorry, the question was implicit. Why is a signature request sent to a deceased taxpayer? If the decendent never signs the authorization, the eSignature request can't be fulfilled.
I understand I can e-file without both signatures; however, I can't manually override the lack of the second signature.
Does the surviving spouse have access to the e-signature for the deceased spouse. Have her sign for that person.
The answer to your question can not be answered here. My answer would be CUZ. We are just other users. It is really rare to ever see an employee respond, other than to tell you to call support. In this case support will likely tell you to call e-signature support. Use Link to get a signed copy from the client.
