I am steeling myself for another year of Proseries screwups
No.
Better than what?
I have absolutely no doubt there will be delays and screwups. But if you are patient, history has showed that ProSeries usually eventually fix major errors and screwups.
The recent law changes will likely increase the errors and problems, but most likely, the major problems will eventually be fixed.
Unfortunately, ProSeries doesn't program the software according to Tax Law; it programs it according to IRS Publications, Forms, and Instructions. Due to the current government shutdown, it seems logical that the finalized updated IRS Publications and Instructions could be delayed, which means that ProSeries updates to 2025 are likely to be delayed.
In short, no, it likely won't be better; but overall, the major problems are likely to be eventually fixed. Just be sure to double-check things and to look to this forum for problems that exist, until they get to gradually get around to fixing things.
If you are asking about the smaller problems that have been around for years, no, there is almost certainly not going to be an improvement.
You would be better off living dangerously and transmit them April 14th. There is a post that popped up yesterday that someone got a late notice from IL because they transmitted a return on 10/15 but because of delays the IL return didn't get there until 10/16.
