I have been a ProSeries user for about 30 years. I have decided to retire. I see turbo tax will only (IRS actually) let you efile 5 returns. Can I keep my EFIN and PTIN number and use maybe ProConnect as a non paid preparer to file these returns (probably pay per return in case they all don't use me)? I will have 5 different states also. OR...will Turbo tax let me efile more with an EFIN number if there is a place to enter it? I also thought about using ProConnect or ProSeries pay per return for my own to finish out my business taxes (sole proprietor) and using Turbo tax for the rest...I can maybe get my grandkids on a free file. Sheesh! this is complicated! And then maybe after I get my final business sch c completed I will tell the rest of them to take a hike! 🙂 Any help and comments appreciated.
Congratulations. The cost per return for that small number is high now. ProConnect requires an EFIN, for e-file. No EFIN = paper only. Very different from ProSeries, as it is modeled on Lacerte. You can use your log on information used here to try the program at https://accountants.intuit.com/tax-software/tax-online/try-proconnect-tax/ There is no charge if you don't try to Print or Efile. Use "check return" and you can view all the forms.
My guess is keep your ProSeries, pay per return if the cost works out for you.
Thank you. I am converting 2023 to ProConnect now to check it out
If you have been using ProSeries for 30 years, the CD/downloaded version of TurboTax is your best option (don't use the main Interview; the "Forms" mode mostly uses the exact same worksheets as ProSeries).
My opinion:
(a) Tell 5 of them you are retired and they will need to have their returns prepared in another way. If you want, you can review the returns before they are filed. Or ...
(b) Pick the most difficult 5 returns and do them on your computer. Have a family buy another copy of TurboTax and install it on their computer, and invite the other 5 people (the simpler returns) to their house to prepare and e-file those 5 returns.
